HP ELITEBOOK 8760W Review and Tips

The link below connects you to a PDF file offering my opinion and tips on a great new HP Elitebook 8760W Workstation class Laptop Computer purchased in December 2011.  While my overall impression and experience is very positive, there is always some room for improvements and this article provides an in-depth look from a very experienced user. This is definitely the best laptop I have ever owned in a long lineup from many manufacturers, but read the full article about surprises with the docking station.

Read about the other computers that were considered and why they were not purchased.  Read about the best and worst features of the HP Elitebook 8760W as well as HP's Advanced Docking Station and it's surprising shortcomings.  We also discuss the good and the bad about HP Customer service during the purchase experience.

For anyone wanting to hook up from one to four external monitors with this laptop we share our fresh experience and surprises regarding how this is done and what to watch out for.

Read about serious shortcomings with HP's NR078AA Video adapter that is intended to connect a Displayport video port to a monitor with Dual Link DVI connectors.

Some Quick Tips from the HP 8760W Review and Tips:
1. Unplugging the USB power providing cable from HP's NR078AA adapter will restart a frozen HP LP3065 30" LCD monitor. Sometimes 2 or 3 times.  If anyone else is having this same problem and/or found a fix, please e-mail me your insights.
2. Only the 230W Advanced Docking Station works with the HP 8760W, NOT the 120W model.
3. Login passwords are much faster than login finger print scans.
4. There are no USB 3.0 ports on the docking station.
5.  There is no Dual Link DVI technology in the Advanced docking station as in my previous model for my HP 8710W.
6. There are now fast Compact Flash Card reader adapters for the new Expressport 54 built into the HP 8760W.
7. There is no Expresscard 54 on the docking station.
8. Blu-Ray burner is not an option for the docking station, just the laptop itself.
9. The Solid State Drive option for a boot drive on the 8760W is definitely worthwhile for greater boot speed and application loading.  Durability and silence are also great traits!!
